Edith Best

Clyde-Edith Smart Best, age 89, of Silvers Cove Road, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joe Silas and Sarah Davis Smart and was also preceded in death by her brother, Joe Silas Smart. She was a graduate of Clyde High School and a member of Crabtree Baptist Church. Mrs. Best was a homemaker and a dairy farmer. She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 68 years, Willard P. Best, one daughter Doris West and her husband Jimmy of Clyde, one son, James Autry Best and his wife Betty Jo of Clyde, one sister Wilma Howell of Clyde, 2 grandchildren, Martin Clark and his wife Marianne of Bloomington, IN, Kathie Carter and her husband Lynwood of Weaverville, one step-granddaughter, Diane Perez, 3 great-grandchildren; Ashley Clark, Brittany Clark and Joe McGimsey and one step- great-granddaughter Amanda Carter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. Reverend Jerry Ensley, Reverend Kitty Crain and Reverend Gene King will officiate. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Nephews and family serving as pallbearers will be the following; Don Smart, Tim Smart, Ray McElroy, Michael Lentz, Joe McGimsey, Darryll Cagle, Tim Lentz and Roger Ferguson.
