Edith Corbin

Waynesville, Edith Crawford Corbin, age 79, of 85 Corbin Lane, died on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Smathers Crawford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee "R.L." Corbin, who died in 2000; a sister, Julie Crawford, and one brother, Carl Crawford. Mrs. Corbin was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and canning. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Robby Corbin and his wife, Diana, of Balsam; two daughters, Joan Corbin of Waynesville and Gail Kirkendall and her husband, Harold, of Balsam; one sister, Arlene Knight and her husband, Bill, of Balsam; one brother, Billy A. Crawford, also of Balsam; three sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Crawford, of Asheville, Louise Corbin of Waynesville, and Stella Corbin of Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren, Julie Balcom and husband, Tim, and Jonathan Trull and wife, Rachel, all of Arden, Carla Haughton and husband, Tommy, of Charlotte, Jason Kirkendall of Balsam, Jennifer Mason and husband, Rhet, of Clyde, and Melissa Creasman and husband, Charlie, of Waynesville; and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ray Sharpe and Reverend Charlie Creasman officiating. Burial will be at Red Bank Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Kirkendall, Jonathan Trull, Tim Balcom, Tommy Houghton, Rhet Mason, and Mike and Buddy Corbin. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home and at other times, at the home.
