Edith Fultz

September 17, 1917 — September 6, 2003

Edith was a lifelong member of the church her grandfather founded, Long's Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Junaluska. She taught Sunday School there for more than three decades and strongly supported the Church's preschool education programs. In 1995, the Church recognized her life-long contribution through the establishment of the Edith Long Fultz Scholarship Fund.

Edith moved to Macon, Georgia in 1996 to be near her daughter Sally and her family. She died on September 6 at her home in Macon, her family in attendance. Edy was kind, gentle, patient, sympathetic and generous, a devoted kindergarten teacher for forty years as well as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an optimist whose positive outlook saw her through the difficulties in her life and enabled her always to find the bright aspects of the situations she faced.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Fultz of Budapest, Hungary and Sally Henley of Macon, Georgia; a sister, Ruth Lane of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandsons, Adam and Russell Henley of Macon, Georgia and John Kirk Francis of Cambridge, Massachusetts; her sons-in-law, Chapin Henley and John Francis; and two nieces, Judy Mikesell of Nashville, Tennessee and Carol Herring of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2003 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church at Lake Junaluska. The Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the services, at the church. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Edith Long Fultz Scholarship Fund, Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, Lake Junaluska, NC, 28745, or to the Macon Volunteer Clinic, 376 Rogers Avenue, Macon, Georgia, 31204.

Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
