Edith McCracken Howell, age 86, died Monday, July 23, 2007, at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Jarvis and Vera Kinsland McCracken. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elsie McCracken. She was a very active member of Sunny Point Baptist Church where she was in the WMU, a choir member, and a Sunday School teacher. Edith loved to sew and crochet, she enjoyed reading and playing board games with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 60 years, Arnold R. Howell, she is survived by three daughters, M. A. Howell Rhash of Canton, Ruth Howell Davis and her husband, Darell, of Anderson, SC, and Irene Howell Anderson and her husband, Mack, of Canton; a sister, Edna McCracken of Waynesville; a brother, Thurman McCracken of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Diana Abbott Sturgill, Lauren Habenicht, and Garrett and Samantha McCollough. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Sunny Point Baptist Church with the Reverend James Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
