Edith Miller

August 4, 1925 — June 5, 2006

Maggie Valley-Edith Elizabeth Teague Miller, age 80, of the Dellwood Community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, June 5, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native and life-long resident of Haywood County, and was the daughter of the late Horace Lloyd and Cora Ellen Hoglen Teague. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Teague and one brother, Neal Teague. She was a homemaker and a member of Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church. She was a very active member of her church and was involved in the homebound ministry and visitation; was a Sunday School teacher and a choir member; and had served as youth choir director and Vacation Bible School Superintendent. She was a Red Cross volunteer and received a "Mother of the Year Award." She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and singing. She loved and cared for her family with great compassion and love. She is survived by her husband, Melburn L. Miller, and had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 9, 2006. She is also survived by four daughters, Linda Greene and husband, James, of Lake Junaluska; Anne Strickland and husband, Gary, of Leicester, NC; Nancy Rathbone and husband, Mitchell, of the Bethel Community; and Melba Powell and husband, Jeff, of Candler; and one son, Phil Miller, of the home. Six grandchildren: Ashley Greene, Steve Strickland and wife, Stephanie, Pat Scarborough and husband, Mike, Tyler Rathbone, Allison Hicks and husband, Tyler, and Andrea Powell; and two great grandchildren, Adam Scarborough and Scarlett Strickland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church with Reverend James Huey, Reverend Wayne J. Willett, and Reverend Jarvis Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the church and at other times at the home, 238 Julia Drive, Maggie Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC; Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church, 154 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, NC 28721; or the Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801.
