Edith Plemmons

September 5, 1920 — April 21, 2011

Clyde, Edith Ferguson Plemmons, age 90, of Rocky Lane Road, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on April 21, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, she had resided in Haywood County since 1951. She was the daughter of the late David and Annie Guffey Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow M. Plemmons, who went to be with the Lord in 1999. She retired from teaching in the Haywood County School System after 42 years, teaching primarily at Crabtree Iron Duff School, and was a member of Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and gardening, especially tending to her roses. She is survived by two daughters, Doris Warren and husband, Jim, of Clyde and Marianna Turner and companion Mike Lanier, of Largo, Florida; two sister-in-laws, Lola Ferguson of the Spring Creek Community and Faye Gunter of Asheville; three grandchildren, Jason Turner and wife, Tanya, Lyandon Warren and wife, Kim, and Jenny Reynolds and husband, DeWayne; seven great grandchildren, Michael Ramsey, Taylor and Brent Turner, Chase and Joseph Reynolds, Ava and Charlotte Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church and at other times, Edith's home. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church with Reverend Lyandon Warren, Reverend Jimmy Huey, and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve, Jason, and Brent Turner, Jason Reeves, Chase and DeWayne Reynolds, Gary Parrott, and Larry Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be Melburn Miller and Reverend Stacy Woods, also Edith's former students, Reverend Alan Davis, Reverend Heath Davis, Reverend Tim Reeves, and Reverend DeWayne Rathbone. Memorials may be made to Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church Youth Fund, 154 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
