Edith Putnam

Waynesville, Edith M. Hampton Putnam, age 90, of Stamey Cove Road, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Sad and Stella Stepp Hampton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rixie Virgil Putnam; a daughter, Betty Sue Cagle; three sisters, Lula Belle Stamey, Robenia Goodson and Hazel Rathbone and three brothers, Ted, John and Robert Hampton. Edith loved the outdoors, especially working in her yard. She was a devoted caretaker of her family and anyone in need. Edith will be remembered for her caring and loving spirit. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Collins of Canton; two sons, Jimmie Putnam and his wife, Katrina, of Waynesville, and R.V. Putnam, Jr. of Asheville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Rocky Branch Cemetery with Reverend Chris Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 prior to the service at Rocky Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
