Waynesville-Edith Ferguson Roveano, age 90, of Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center and formerly of 274 Assembly Street, died on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County and former resident of Woodstown, NJ and Reno, NV, she was the daughter of the late C.B. and Pearl Turner Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Schein Roveano, who died in 1973 and three brothers, Gilbert, Charles and Jack Ferguson. She and her late husband formerly owned and operated Dellwood Motel from 1953 to 1972. She loved classical music and was an eloquent writer with beautiful penmanship. Mrs. Roveano was a wonderful mother and grandmother par excellence. She is survived by one daughter, Victoria Roveano Pope of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Hunter Pope and his wife, Kirstie Fischer, of Asheville, Melissa Pope of Brevard, and David Aaron Pope of Raleigh; two sisters, Betty Bell of Woodstown, NJ and Margaret Shelton and her husband, Kenneth, of Canton; two brothers, Claude Ferguson and his wife, Charlotte, of FL and Robert Ferguson of Waynesville; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Roveano's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dellwood Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services.
