Edmond Reed

April 21, 1918 — April 27, 2011

Edmond Garth Reed, 93, of Candler, passed away April 27th. A Swain County native, he was the son of the late John and Edith Childers Reed.
He had served in the Army during World War II. After working for the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, TN for 35 years, he and his late wife, Minnie, retired to their beloved mountains.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Minnie Foxx Reed, he is preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Reed.
Garth is survived by his son, Dr. Edmond Reed of Brentwood, TN; granddaughters, Farris Reed of Brentwood, TN and Dr. Alexis (Todd) Sims of Miami Beach, FL; three sisters, Freda Brown of Whittier, Nelda Cairns and Nayda Bailey, both of Atlanta; brothers, Max Reed of Candler and Gene Reed of Whittier and great grandson Merritt Sims.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Charismatic Episcopal Church, 116 Vance Avenue, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
