Edmund New, Sr.

August 31, 1930 — January 16, 2005

Waynesville, NC-Edmund Allen New, Sr., age 74, of Cap Street, died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Charleston, SC, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late William Clifton New and Ethel Williamson New and was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Straub, and a brother, Frank New. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a life member of VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. He enjoyed golf and woodworking and he attended Cornerstone Worship Center. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Eunice Ashe New; four daughters, Glenda Swanger and her husband, Jerry, and Sarah Sanford and her husband, Ricky, both of Waynesville and Traci Trull and Teresa Cochran and her husband, Jeremy, both of Clyde; a son, Edmund A. New, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Waynesville; a sister, Doris Reynolds and her husband, E.E., of N. Charleston, SC; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Rick Sanford officiating. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
