Edna Drye

Canton – Edna Smathers Drye, age 97, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at MedWest Haywood Hospital. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Turner and Mollie Massie Smathers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Leonard Drye, who passed away in 2005. Edna was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and the United Methodist women. She is survived by a son, Stephen Cox and his wife, Sue, of Canton; and three grandchildren, Stephanie Wright, Mitchell and Nathan Cox; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Love and Reverend David Ortigoza officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
