Waynesville-Edna Belle Meadows Messer, age 86, formerly of Waynesville, died Friday, June 6, 2003 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek in Arden.
She was born and lived in Buncombe County for 40 years before moving to Waynesville where she had resided since 1956.
She was one of ten children born to the late John Baxter and Lou Henderson Meadows and was the last survivor of her family. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Lane Hunter.
She was employed by the Sky City Snack Bar, by Smith's Drug Store, Lays 5 & 10 and was a former bookkeeper for Bennett & Felmet Service Station. She was a member of Barberville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Brownlowe G. Messer; 3 children, Gene W. Messer and his wife Marsha, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Roslyn M. Hunter and her husband Bob of Asheville, and Janice M. Bradley and her husband Bill, of Hendersonville; seven grandchildren, Alan, Keith, Gene, Jr., Shavonne, Aimee, Vanessa, and Sara; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 Barberville Baptist Church. The Reverend G. W. Jameson will officiate. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.
