Waynesville, NC, Edward "Eddie" Alphonse Damour, Jr. died on April 19, 2011. Born in Macon, Georgia on April 26, 1938, he spent his early years in Waynesville but resided most of his life in Hillsboro, Georgia. He was the son of the late Edward A. Damour, Sr. and Mozelle Damour Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Edward Damour and one sister, Sara Jo Thomas. Eddie graduated from Waynesville Township High School and earned his teaching degree at the University of Georgia. He later served in the US Air Force and retired from teaching at Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia. He enjoyed spending time with his family, studying maps, reading, gardening and working in his yard. He was a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Noland Damour; a sister, Patricia Thomas Hooper, of Greensboro, North Carolina; one brother, George B. Damour and his wife, Sylvia, of Gray, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. James G. Mackey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood County Library, 678 South Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 21 Anderson Lane, Hillsboro, GA 31038.
