Edward Stamey

Canton-Edward "Ed" Stamey of 224 Davis Hill Road died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County. He was a son of the late Nicholas and Ella Franklin Stamey. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and an army veteran serving during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruby Mae Bumgarner Stamey; two sons; David Stamey and his wife Reverend Louise Stamey of Canton and Robert Stamey also of Canton; two sisters, Scott and Rachael Thomason both of Canton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2003 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend Louise Stamey and Reverend Blaine Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. Visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2003 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Ruth Yarborough, 103 Thompson St., Canton.
