Edward Zane

March 23, 1924 — October 31, 2008

Waynesville, Edward Joseph Zane, age 84, of Grey Fox Lane, died on Friday, October 31, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Camden, New Jersey. Edward lived in Cherry Hill, NJ and had resided in Haywood County for the past 19 years. He was the son of the late Howard and Helen Soistman Zane. Edward was employed by AT&T as a Supervisor and retired with 40 years of service. He was a ham radio operator, gardener, loved working with his hands which included building several boats and buildings. He also loved boating, camping, fishing, was an entrepreneur and played the trumpet in a dance band for many years. He was a US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII where he received pilot training. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Hart Zane; one daughter, Caroline Bock and her husband, Roland of Chincoteague Island, VA; one son, Howard Zane and his wife, Brenda, of Talking Rock, GA and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Christopher Crume officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road Kanab, Utah 84741-5000.
