Waynesville, Edward Lee "Tommy" Messer, age 84, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at his residence.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of Edgar Messer and Zettie Sutton Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Shane Messer. Tommy proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was employed by Dayco Corporation in maintenance for many years. Some of his favorite activities included camping, fishing, and gardening.
Tommy is survived by his dear wife of 63 years, Edith Morrow Messer; his three children, Sheila Messer, Kyle (Martha) Messer, and Julie Messer Robinson, all of Waynesville; four sisters, Clara (Grant) Parrott, Arletta (Claude) Long, Dorothy Crawford, and Sandra Messer; and two brothers, Allen Jenkins and Scott Jenkins. Also left to treasure his memory are two grandchildren, Jonathan Miller (Kasey) and Kalem Robinson; and two great-grandchildren, Kensleigh Miller and Kaleigh Holcombe.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the funeral home.
The care of Mr. Messer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
