Edwin Lee "Ed" Jackson, age 87, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late J. Sam Jackson and Winnie Mae Crawford Jackson. He was also greeted in heaven by his children, Robert Earl Jackson, who died in 2007, a daughter, Glenda Mathews, who died in 1991; three sisters, Aileen Curtis, Evelyn Burris, and Jean Cogburn; and three brothers Fred Newell, Roy Donald, and infant brother, Robert Earl Jackson. He was employed with Rogers Tractor Company then McClure Dills Tractor Company Ed was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and a charter member of the Clyde Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for eight years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edwina Leatherwood Jackson; three sons, Gary Jackson and his wife, Barbara, of Waynesville, Carl Jackson and his wife, Betty, of Clyde, and Steve Jackson and his wife, Pam, of Waynesville; a daughter Mary Ann Morgan and her husband, Gary, of Clyde; three brothers, Ray Jackson of Clyde, Paul Jackson of Lake Junaluska, and David Jackson of Clyde; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Clyde First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips and Reverend James Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
