Hartwell, Georgia, Edwin Palmer Ratcliffe, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Rosemont Nursing Home in Stone Mountain, Georgia. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Hartwell, Georgia for the past six years. He was the son of the late James Way Ratcliffe and Selma Clark Ratcliffe and was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Fish Ratcliffe and one sister, Chrystelle Ratcliffe Ferguson. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked at Dayco for twenty five years before his retirement. Edwin was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a passion for cooking and also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and dancing. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Ratcliffe Morgan and her husband, J.C., of Snellville, Georgia and Renee Ratcliffe Bridges and her husband, Greg, of Clyde; one son, Randy C. Ratcliffe and his wife, Amy Satterfield Ratcliffe, of Lavonia, Georgia; one brother, Roger Ratcliffe and his wife, Joyce, of Newnan, Georgia; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Wells Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
