Edwin Rogers

"A Gentle Man"

Clyde, Edwin Harrison Rogers, 90, of Asbury Rogers Road, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Marcus Boone Rogers and Maneese Medford Rogers and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Taylor, Davis and Russell Rogers; three sisters Adeline Belich, Eva Tate and Betty Duckett. He was a US Navy veteran having served during World War II and retired from Dayco Corporation after 30 years of service. He was also life-long farmer. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ferguson Rogers; two daughters, Kathryn Allen (Daniel) of Virginia Beach, Margaret Bowers (Bill) of Lake Junaluska; a son, Edwin Mark Rogers (Laura) of Clyde; four grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Allen, Sarah Kathryn Routsis (Bill), Taylor Harrison Rogers and James Thornton Rogers (Courtney); and two great-granddaughters, Stella and Despina Routsis.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Reverend R. Curran Welch officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1949 Upper Crabtree Road, Clyde, NC 28721 or a charity of one's choice.
