Elaine Dorothy Falk Schallhorn, of Candler, passed away at her home surrounded by her family. A native of East Lake, MI, she was the daughter of the late Emil Rudolph and Evelyn Dorothy Clausen Falk. While in Michigan, Elaine attended Good Shepherd Lutheran. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1967 and Western Michigan University in 1970 where she was also involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. Elaine was an educator and Librarian in Buncombe County Schools from 1971-1973 and then at Emmanuel Lutheran School from 1979-2012. She received her Master's Degree from WCU in 1992.
She joined Emmanuel Lutheran Church in 1971 and was very active with the Youth Group, training the acolytes for several years, Ladies Aide, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and started the traditional Advent Tea. Elaine enjoyed reading, knitting and walking, especially across the Mackinac Bridge. She was also an avid Carolina Tarheel Basketball Fan and loved cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Leonard and Louise Schallhorn.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Edward "Ed" Carl Schallhorn; daughter, Kristin Joye (Sean) Palmer; son, Jonathan Emil (Janet Pepin) Schallhorn; grandchildren, Kathryn, Ryan and Evan Palmer, Cory and Laurel Schallhorn; Cameron and Brendan Nickerson; sister-in-law, Nancy Grandy; brother-in-law, Tom (Char) Schallhorn and cat, Mickey.
A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00AM with Rev. Michael McFarland officiating. The family will gather with friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School, 51 Wilburn Place, Asheville NC 28806.
