Canton-Eldon Luster Clontz, age 95 of 15 Cooper Street died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Riley E. and Eva Henson Clontz. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Effie Ingle Clontz and his 2nd wife, Mozelle Potter Clontz. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip Rhinehart, 2 brothers; Eston and Roy Clontz, 4 sisters; Floy Clontz Pope, Ardelle Clontz Cook, Elsie Clontz Johnson and Belle Clontz Burnette. He retired as a rewind operator at Champion International in 1973 with 29 years of service.
He is survived by one daughter; Ellen Clontz Rhinehart and her husband, Calvin of Spartanburg, SC, step-daughter; Violet Potter Ballard and her husband, Case of Charlotte, NC, one son; James R. "Pete" Clontz and his wife Barbara of Canton, two sisters, Valerie Mathis of Candler, Ruby Burnette of Rome, GA, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Morning Star United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Doug Love officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times the family will be at Pete and Barbara Clontz home, 12 Skyline Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Haywood County, Home Health Building, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
