Eleanor Hale

Waynesville, Eleanor H. "Skippy" Hale of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Waynesville, NC passed away Thursday June 17, at her home in Waynesville, NC. She was born in Decatur, Georgia on May 31, 1927, the daughter of Walter and Betty Turner Herbert. She graduated from Decatur Girls High School and Converse College. Skippy was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Skippy's passion for gardening and flower arranging, was apparent as she served on the Alter Guild at Vero Beach Methodist Church, President of the Garden Club of Indian River County, member of State Garden Club Board, serving as flower show judge throughout the state of Florida, and member of Laurel Circle of Jacksonville Garden Club. Skippy was a member of the Junior League of Palm Beach, National Society of Colonial Dames, and State Representative of Converse College Alumni Board. Skippy was a talented and extraordinary woman who traveled the world extensively. Her life was enriched, by family, friends and church, she loved a good party and had a wonderful giving spirit. Her greatest love was spending summers in the mountains of NC, at Lake Junaluska and on her farm with her late husband Joe. Skippy is survived by her sister, Constance Vinson and brother-in-law, Ed, from Atlanta, Her children Elodie Craig and son-in-law Dennis Craig, of Ogden Utah, Joe Hale and daughter-in-law Linda Hale of Port St Lucie, Florida. Leslie Weed and son-in-law Bobby Weed of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Six grandchildren, Jason Bethea, Elizabeth Bethea, Michael Hale, Haley Weed, Carlisle Weed, Lanier Weed and great granddaughter Tildon Bethea. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 11:00 am at the Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska. Additionally a memorial service will be held in Amelia Island Plantation, FL in the fall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the foundation founded by Skippy's daughter Leslie Weed, in honor of her granddaughter Lanier.
