Eleanor Sutton

Waynesville, Eleanor Byrd Rees Sutton, age 95, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing Home after a prolonged illness. She was the daughter of the late D. C. Byrd and Joanna Robinson Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Rees, who died in 1947 and David Sutton, who died in 2001; three sisters, Greer Corns, Della Thomas, and Beatrice Gibson; and three brothers, B.C., Robert, and Paul Byrd. Eleanor worked in Bryson City until moving to Waynesville in the late 60's and then worked at Western Carolina University from 1968 until her retirement. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Pam Leming and her husband, Joe, of Clyde and Ann Murphy and her husband, Vincent, of Penn Valley, California; one son, Jimmy Sutton, of Franklin; one sister, Faye Sheffield, of Waynesville; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of Pam and Joe Leming. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to friends and relatives who were always there with the right words of support and comfort and also to the caring staff of Autumn Care Nursing Home.
