Waynesville, Elford Sutton, age 90, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Robert and Josie Hannah Sutton. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Boyde Sutton, who died in 1988; three sisters, Tressie Meadows, Marjorie Harrell and Elfie Owen and two brother; Tilson and Willard Sutton. Elford served in U.S. Army during WWII. He retired as Captain of Waynesville Fire Department after 34 years of service and was a member of Barberville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Moody Sutton; two sisters, Wilma Lindsey and her husband, Fred and Thelma West; a brother Leonard Sutton and his wife, Shirley, all of Waynesville; a grandson, Douglas Kibbe Sutton and his wife, Leigh, of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Marci Kay and Carol Lynn Sutton, of Garland, TX; two great-grandchildren; William Douglas Sutton and Harrison Lee Sutton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Magnet and Reverend Jack Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Bizzell, Sammy Carver, Mike Price, Oscar McCarter, Hugh and Tommy Moody, Jim Howell and Howard Trantham.
