Elizabeth Downey

Lake Junaluska, Elizabeth "Beth" McCastlain Downey, wife of the Reverend Dr. H. Jack Downey, age 77, of Cocoa Beach Florida, and Lake Junaluska, NC died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Beth Downey was a bright and burning lamp for Jesus. She had a vital ministry and was a mother to many. She loved well and reflected Jesus Christ as she ministered to others even in her last days on earth in the Spirit of Luke 7:22. Beth and her husband Jack celebrated nearly 57 married years together and co-labored together for the Kingdom Of God. She is survived by her husband, and five children; Dr. Jackson Downey III, Bonnie Downey Greene, Lucy Downey Hughes, Linda Downey Hackett, Rachel Downey Hood and their spouses, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She considered them her crown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Lake Junaluska Assembly Development Office, P.O. Box 67, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745, for a memorial bench in Beth's memory.
