Waynesville, Elizabeth "Libby" Register King, affectionately known as Granny" passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 29, 2013. Born September 13, 1924, in Samson County, North Carolina, she had just celebrated her 89th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Pearl Lewis Register. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jack King, who died in 2005 and one sister, Doris H. Thornton. She was a teacher for Head Start and co-owner of Mountain View Nursery. Elizabeth loved spending time with her family and enjoyed raising flowers. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John M. "Jack" King; her children, Steve King and his wife, Terry, and Jim King and his wife, Anna, of Waynesville, Lee King and his wife, Benne, of Raleigh, and Cathy King, of Winston-Salem; one brother, Henry Register, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Josh, Genny, Elijah, Anna, Logan and Davis; and one great grandchild, Scarlett, whom she met for the first time at her birthday party. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the Faith Classroom. Private graveside services will be held at King Family Cemetery in Brevard.
