Ellene Francis

Waynesville, Ellene Holbrook Francis, age 90, peacefully passed away at her residence on Friday, August 26, 2022.

A 70-year resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Grace Edge Holbrook.  She was also preceded in death by her dear husband, Charles "Pink" Francis who died in 2001; her brother, Roy Holbrook, Jr.; and her lovely granddaughter, Sarah Frazier.

Ellene attended Wake Forest College where she met her husband, Pink.  A proud and active member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School, excelled as Choir Director, and was a member of the United Methodist Women.  Ellene lived a charitable life and was active in Rotary, the Soil & Water Conservation Board of Supervisors, and a Trustee at Haywood Community College.  Her life was spent working alongside her husband, Pink, growing apples at Francis Fruit Farm.

She is survived by her two children; daughter, Lyn Frazier, and her husband, Kevin; son, Chuck Francis, and his wife, Vicki; four grandchildren, Matt Frazier (Heather), Kyle Francis, Chris Francis, and Kelsey Saxon (William); and three great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kasen, and Soren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Francis Cove United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Community College Pink & Ellene Francis Scholarship Fund, 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.

The care of Mrs. Francis has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
