Elmer Cope

September 23, 1926 — December 24, 2008

Waynesville, Elmer Ell Cope, age 82, of 1035 Sulphur Springs Road, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Swain County, he had resided in Haywood County most of his life. He was the son of the late Ell and Reavena Clampitt Cope and was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Green Cope, who died in 2001 and three brothers. He retired from Champion Papers in 1988 after 33 years service. Mr. Cope enjoyed fishing and his grandchildren and was also a minister. He was a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Elmer Dewayne Cope and his wife, Deanna, of Waynesville; two daughters, Carolyn C. Fisher and her husband, Ronnie, of Waynesville and Patricia Trull of Portsmouth, VA; two sisters, Eva C. Carson of Clover, SC and Mae C. Jones of Buncombe County; and eight grandchildren, Bethany and Layna Cope, Shanda and Nathan Fisher, and Scott Dale, Missie, and Matthew Trull. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Beth Eden Baptist Church with Reverend Dale Wheeler, Reverend Carl Chastain, and Reverend Marvin Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Wayne and Jerry Green, Jason Jones and Eugene and Chris Green. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Beth-Eden Baptist Church, 125 Big Cove Circle, Waynesville, NC 28786.
