Elsie Lowrance

Canton- Elsie Whitener Lowrance, age 94, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was born October 9, 1913 to Robert Lee and Maggie B. Wilfong Whitener near Hickory, NC in the Bethel and Lion Community and was the wife of the late, Floyd Eugene “Ish” Lowrance who died in 1995. Elsie was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church in which she was active in the women’s society, a member of Circle 4 and the Fidelles Sunday School Class. She was also a leader in Boy Scout Troop 316 of Canton and a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Louise Goddard. She is survived by a step-daughter, Sandra Lowrance Thomas and her husband, C.L. of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Betty Goddard Morris of Virginia Beach, VA; and a nephew, Edward Goddard of Norfolk, VA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Patricia Chaput officiating. Burial will follow in Bon-a-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
