Elva Bentley Wells, age 87, of Rhoda Street, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Pipes Bentley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Francis Wells, who died in 2004; two sisters, Dorothy Bentley and Phina Austin; and two brothers, Herbert and James Bentley. Elva was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. She loved her family and church with all her heart. Elva sang in the choir for over 51 years and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 21 years. She is survived by two daughters; Alta and Fran Carol Wells, both of Canton; three sons, Roger Wells and his wife, Lois, Kermit B. Wells, all of Canton, and Dennis Wells and his wife, Diane, of Mars Hill; one sister, Mary Winner of Asheville; six grandchildren, Stephanie Lanning, Samantha, Lee, Jennie, and Madison Wells, and Joshua Lancaster; and three great-grandchildren, Corbett and Constance Lanning, and Lindsey Wells. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Field Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
