Emily Nesbitt

Emily Palmer Nesbitt, a 44 year resident of Henderson County, passed away at home on Thursday, May 7th, at the age of 92. Born and raised in Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Fannie Ferguson Palmer of Crabtree. Married to the late Bearl F. Nesbitt for 66 years, she is survived by 3 children: Dr. Joe Nesbitt of Mills River, Jack Nesbitt and his wife, Becky, of Mills River, and Janet Nesbitt Orr and her husband, Eric, of Blowing Rock. Lovingly dubbed "Mimi," she leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Scott Nesbitt and his wife, Stephanie, of Mills River, Josh Orr and his wife, Jackie, Jake Orr, Sarah Orr, Gina Ruppert and her husband, Brian, Stacy Nesbitt, and Mark Nesbitt. Mrs. Nesbitt was also the proud great-grandmother of 6. A graduate of Clyde High School, she attended Weaver College, graduated from Brevard Junior College, and received a B.S. degree from Western Carolina Teachers' College – where she was honored as "May Queen." She taught 2nd and 3rd grade in both Waynesville and Crabtree before becoming a loving mother, full-time homemaker, and business partner in the family farm. Her hobbies included reading nonfiction, canning, freezing, and following politics. She donated much of her time and talents to two beloved churches, Crabtree United Methodist Church and Mills River United Methodist Church, serving as a missionary society member, a circle and committee member, and as a Sunday school teacher. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 9, 2009 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert M. Blackburn, Jr. and Reverend Kathy McAbee officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden (adjacent to the church) with lunch afterwards.
