Emily Blickenstaff Pressley, age 86, of 600 Barrett Lane, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Givens Health Care Center. She was a native of Cerro Gordo, IL and was the daughter of the late David and Emma Mohler Blickenstaff. She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Eugene Pressley, who died in 1959, and a daughter, Nancy Pressley Finger. Emily was the last of eight children. She graduated from the Cerro Gordo High School with honors. She loved all sports including basketball and was an avid tennis player. She received an Associates Degree from Blackburn College in Southern Illinois and belonged to the Women's Army Corp. Emily was a member of West Canton Baptist Church and had worked as an innkeeper at the Lake Junaluska Methodist Assembly, where she retired in 1985. After her retirement, she moved into Givens Estates. She is survived by a son, John Pressley of Canton; five grandchildren, Shane Norman, Stephen Norman, Matthew Norman, Adam Pressley and Elizabeth Pressley and two great-grandchildren, Corey Norman and Tesa Norman. The committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Wallace Britt and Reverend Joe Steadman officiating. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday at Givens Estates with the Reverend Joe Fulk, Jr. officiating. Memorials may be made to the New Building Fund at West Canton Baptist Church, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC, 28716.
