Emily Smathers

Canton – Emily Hamlett Smathers, 96, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at The Laurels of Green Tree Ridge.

Emily was a daughter of the late Lee and Addie Cole Hamlett.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thomas Smathers and a son, Doug Maynard.  Emily was a long-time member of Canton Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a grandchild, Ken Maynard (Chris), of Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Mollie Maynard; and one great-great-grandchild, Emery Kate Maynard.

Considering the current public health situation, a private burial will be held and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 784, Canton, NC  28716.
