Waynesville, Emma Earley, age 95, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Jackson County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late George and Cora Belle Pruitt Shuler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Earley, who died in 1985; a son, James L. Earley, who passed away in 2008 and two brothers, Roy L. Shuler and Reverend Raymond T. Shuler. Emma was devoted to her family and loved to read and work in her garden. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Edith Russell and her husband, John, of Clyde; a son Blaine R. Earley and his wife, Joyce, of Waynesville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hattie Melton, of Floral City, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Willett and Reverend Ronald Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Blaine and Joyce Earley. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Doug Payne, Mike Payne, David Earley, Ben Earley, Michael Payne, and Hunter Payne. Flowers are appreciated and memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church, 330 Red Bank Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
