Emma Mashburn

Emma Sue Huskey Mashburn, born on May 7, 1936, in Haywood County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her residence on October 11, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy marked by love, creativity, and dedication.

Emma had a distinguished career, serving as an executive secretary with American Enka/BASF for over 30 years. Her professionalism and commitment to her work were evident throughout her tenure, and she was respected by peers and colleagues alike.

An accomplished author and poet, Emma shared her gift for writing through several published books of poetry. Her passion for genealogy, baseball, and cooking enriched her life and provided joy to both her family and friends. Emma was also an active member of Enka Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and formed lasting relationships within the community.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Lee Mashburn, III (Kim) of Erie, Colorado, and David Brian Mashburn of Flat Rock, North Carolina; one brother, Darrel Huskey (Vicki) of Concord; five grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Nick, Lizzy, and Jacob; and two great-granddaughters, Krystina and Jayda.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Mashburn, Jr., who passed away in 2023; her father, William Anderson Huskey; her mother, Vernia Burnett Huskey; two sisters, Rubye Harkins and Jennie Mills; and one brother, William Huskey, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM at Wells Funeral Home of Canton with Reverend Chris L. Reese. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
