Emma Radford

Canton-Emma Jean McCarty Radford, age 73, died on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Smoky Mountain Health Care. She was born in Columbus, Georgia on May 5, 1934 to parents Annie Ruth and Thomas Ewell McCarty, deceased. She was second among four children that included Thomas Ivo McCarty, Betty Evelyn Norris, and John Earl McCarty, all of whom have now passed. Emma Jean married Frank Leon Radford, Sr., deceased, of Waynesville, NC when he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. They have two children, Frank (Butch) Radford, Jr. and wife, Bobbie, and Shelia Sumpter and husband, Roy; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, and husband, Aaron, Ryan Radford, and Nichole Sumpter. Emma Jean and Frank moved to Clyde, NC in 1966. They loved dearly the many friends who stopped by to sit on the porch and watch the traffic or the stars. Emma Jean and Frank enjoyed their roses, which were an introduction to new friends as people stopped by to chat. Frank was a poet at heart who wrote an occasional poem to his sweetheart, Jean. There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family at the home of Shelia Sumpter on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your prayers and to show a special kindness to soomeone in need.
