Alexander-Emmett Grover Eller, age 75, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at his residence.
He was a native of Topton, NC and had lived most of his life in Haywood County before moving to Buncombe County three years ago. He was the son of the late Emmett C. and Angie Nichols Wright and was also preceded in death by his adoptive parents, William M. and Bennie W. Eller.
He was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and the Dell School of Technology. He was employed by several hospitals as a lab and x-ray technician. He retired in 1990 from Dr. William Owen, Jr.'s office in Waynesville. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII and was a signalman aboard the USS Liberty. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gaye Howell Eller; one daughter, Sherry Lyall, of Asheville; two sons, Garry Eller and his wife Sharon, of Lenoir, and Clay Eller and his wife Rita, of Canton; one sister, Aralene Smith, of Waynesville; two half sisters, Addie Lusk, of Hampton, VA and Ramona Wines, of Brown Town, VA; one half brother, Carroll McLean, of Lenoir, NC; two special nieces, Carolyn Henry and Kendra Buckner; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2003 at the New Cruso Cemetery. Reverend James Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the home of the daughter, Sherry Lyall, 67 Springside Drive, Asheville.
