Clyde, Ernest Jackson, age 95, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Pardee Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Frank and Eleanor Howell Jackson.
Ernest enjoyed camping with his family at Lake Chatuge where he liked to ride in the boat and fish. He enjoyed gardening and listening to bluegrass gospel music.
Ernest thought of others before himself and was very community minded. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clyde. He retired from Champion International after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his three sons, Mike Jackson of Clyde, Charlie Jackson and his wife, Debbie, of Etowah, North Carolina and Ron Jackson and his wife, Trish of Gulf Shores, AL.; one sister, Reva McCracken; three grandchildren, Tara Smathers of Mars Hill, Eric Jackson of Austin, Texas, and Stephanie Spivey of Waco, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Aaron and Ethan Smathers, Shannon, Sheridan, and Shelbi Spivey, and Cody, Brooks, and Bryce Jackson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to services at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
