Waynesville, Ernest "Ernie" Michael Lewis, age 67, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Flint, MI; resided in Port Huron, MI where he met his wife Bonnie. They lived most of their lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Macon, GA until moving to Haywood County where they lived for the past 4 ½ years. He was the son of Betty Rice and the late Edgar I. Lewis. Ernie was a computer programmer analyst and later in his life enjoyed being a community service aide and a security guard in Margate, FL. He was a very involved member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge in NC, MI and FL. Ernie really enjoyed traveling and vacationing; going on cruises, working in his yard and cooking. He was very fond of his King Charles Spaniel, " Miss Pogo". He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam conflict. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie Lewis, one son, Daniel Lewis of Ft. Pierce, FL; one daughter, Deborah Campbell of Port Huron, MI; one sister, Rebecca Carriere and her husband, Jim of CA; 2 grandchildren, Krystal Lewis and Angela Campbell, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At his request, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarge's Animal Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
