Ernestine Rush

October 1, 1927 — May 29, 2015

Hayesville – Ernestine Crook Rush, age 87, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Hayesville House. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Hardy and Delilah Young Crook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie G. "Tom" Rush, who died in 2006; three brothers, T.H., Ben, and Fred Crook; and four sisters, Maxine Francis, Edith Coyle, Blanche Hipps and Christine Crook. Ernestine was a member of the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in Candler. She was an accomplished seamstress and a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary of VFW. She is survived by two daughters, Norma Moody and her husband, Jack, of Hayesville, and Linda Downs and her husband, Ronnie, of Candler; two sisters Marjorie Arrowood of Candler, and Miriam Warren of Landrum, South Carolina; special niece and nephew, Pam and Tommy Murray of Abingdon, Virginia; and special extended family, Cliff, Matthew, Charlie, and Lynn Wright of Waynesville, and Tim and Susan Ledford and family. The family would also like to acknowledge the excellent care provided by the staff and residents of Hayesville House. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Randle "Bo" Ford officiating. Memorials may be made to Four Season Hospice, Andrews Division, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, P.O. Box 748, Asheville, NC 28802.
