Essie Cutshaw

January 4, 1919 — September 2, 2004

Waynesville-Essie Maye Messer Cutshaw, age 85, of 44 6th Street, died Thursday, at Mission St. Joseph Health Care System. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Sally Moore Messer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Truman Newton Cutshaw who died in 1982; a sister, Betty Heatherly; and a son-in-law, Don Mintz. She was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. She was employed at the Open-Air Curb Market in Waynesville for over 35 years. She is survived by two sons, Charles Newton Cutshaw and his wife, Shirley, of Lake Junaluska, and Dennis Marshal Cutshaw of Waynesville; four daughters, Jean Rose and her husband, Lloyd, of Waynesville, Sally Mintz of Canton, Hazel Surrett of Waynesville, and Brenda Houser and her husband, Von West, of Oak Island, NC; two sisters, Ellen Penley of Arden and Emma Laws of Lexington; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and a special niece, Dale Jones of Canton. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend J. B. Heatherly officiating.
