Ethel Loraine Ashe, age 87, died Friday, September 16, 2005 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native of Jackson County, but had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Louie and Hattie Reynolds Cabe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ashe who died in 1979 , a son, Bobby Joe Ashe who died in 1981 and a grandaughter, Karen Ashe who died in 2003. Mrs. Ashe spent her life dedicated to her family as a homemaker, and was a member of Burnette Cove Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Herren and her husband, Bill of Butler, TN; a daughter- in- law, Sue Ashe of Bethel; four sisters, Bertha Cooke of Canton, Alice Owle, Phyllis Lambert, and Carol Cabe all of Cherokee; two brothers, Thomas Cabe of Sylva, and Frank Cabe of Canton; three grandchildren, Lisa Hannah of Bethel, Brenda Wilson and Eric Ashe of Canton; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers, niece, Barbara Jean Rigdon and friend, Betty Hannah. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2005 at New Cruso Cemetery with the Reverend Pam Hurst officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home in Canton and at other times, the family will be at the residence of Jim and Lisa Hannah. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
