Ethel Parker Jenkins, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in Haywood County, North Carolina. Born on May 22, 1934, in Haywood County, Ethel dedicated her life to serving others, particularly through her role as the Pastor's wife alongside her husband, Rev. William McKinley Jenkins.
Throughout her life, Ethel was known for her warmth and hospitality. She extended her home to church members and the community, creating a welcoming environment that fostered connections and support. She was an integral part of her husband's ministry, demonstrating unwavering support and devotion.
Ethel had a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her. She remained active and eager to learn new things, even into her later years. In her 70s, Ethel took up quilting and became a treasured member of her quilting group at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Her craftsmanship was celebrated at the county fair, where she garnered several ribbons for her quilts, which she generously gifted rather than sold.
Cooking was another passion that Ethel cherished. From the age of five, she perfected the art of making biscuits, a skill that would become legendary among her family and friends. Ethel's cooking was instinctive; she never relied on recipes, trusting her intuition to create meals that were always delicious and perfectly seasoned. Even well into her 80s, she loved to maintain her yard, taking pride in mowing it herself, sometimes twice a week until she was 87 years old.
Ethel is survived by her sons, Rick Jenkins (Debbie) of Waynesville and Randy Jenkins (Kim Brock) of Lake Logan Community; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members who will carry her memory forward.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. William McKinley Jenkins; her parents, Willie McKinley Parker and Demie Parham Parker; her brothers, Glen Parker and Thomas Parker; and her sister, Blanche Clontz.
Ethel Parker Jenkins will be remembered for her deep commitment to her family, her generous spirit, and her unwavering dedication to her community and church. Her legacy of love, humor, and service will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
