Ethel Walker

Waynesville-Ethel Best Walker, age 96, of 119 Riverview Drive, died December 10, 2003 at Autumn Care Nursing Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Eva Rogers Best. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Howell ''Ted'' Walker, who died March 20, 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Walker, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lake Junaluska and Jack C. Walker and his wife, Jean, of the Crabtree Community; two brothers, Paul Best, of Crabtree and Don Best of Candler; five grandchildren, Alan, Scott, and Joe Walker, Starr Greenleaf, and Lisa McDaniels; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan, Scott, and Joe Walker, III, Ronnie Mathis, Ray McElroy, and Ronald Rathbone. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
