Eugene Harvey

Waynesville, Eugene H. Harvey, age 91, of Chancery Lane, died on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of West Virginia, he had resided in Lindenhurst, NY and moved to Haywood County in 1991. He was the son of the late Okey and Susie Daniels Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Christiansen Harvey who died in 2005 and five brothers, Virgil, Dolf, Beecher, Herbert, and Okey Harvey, Jr. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Force during World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1978 from Grumman Aircraft where he was a machinist. He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst, NY and a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church and the Allens Creek Baptist Church Golden Harvesters Group. He was a former member of the Lions club and volunteered at the Open Door. He is survived by one son, James Eugene Harvey and his wife, Valerie, of Chesapeake, Virginia; one daughter, Barbara Ann Baiera and her husband, Charles, of the Crabtree Community; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and grandson-in-laws. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times, at the home of Mr. Harvey.
