Black Mountain, Eugene J. "Jeff" Lewis, 87 of Black Mountain went to be with his Lord Wednesday, April 15, 2009. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Mattie Carpenter Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife and son, Beulah Brooks Lewis and Michael E. Lewis; as well as brothers, Lee and Hugh Lewis, and sisters, Ruth Cogdill, Frances Heller, and Mattie Moose. Jeff was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army. He retired from the Town of Montreat. Jeff loved bear hunting, bee keeping, solitaire, and Atlanta Braves Baseball. He was a proud and loving Daddy, Pappie, Grandaddy, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Lewis Halford, and her husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Kim Justice, and her husband, Darren, Scott Halford, Brooke Dorlan, and her husband, Travis, and Haley Ensley, and her husband, Jason, great grandchildren, his special buddies Tyler and James Justice, Gracie and Mattie Dorlan, and Miceala and Landon Ensley; brothers, Bill, Junior, and Jack Lewis; sisters; Betty Warfle, Helen Holt, Dolly Rhodes, and Barbara Shidner, many nieces, nephews and a very special "Bee" friend Edd Buchanan. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with the Pastor Randy Stone officiating. Burial will be at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park, Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Darren and Kim Justice, 203 Swannanoa Ave. Black Mountain.
