Eugene Nichols

Waynesville, Eugene "Gene" Hamilton Nichols, age 85, of Orion Davis Road, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Clayton Marvin and Elsie Moore Nichols. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Lee Nichols and Louie "Jake" Nichols and one sister, Sarah Jane Walker. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was employed at Welco Shoe Corporation for 35 years. Eugene loved being outdoors taking care of lawn, flowers and garden. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Eugene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hilda Cagle Nichols; a sister, Doris Kerly of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jennings Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
