Eunice Brown

November 4, 1930 — December 2, 2010

Waynesville, Eunice Fisher Brown, age 80, passed away on Thursday, December 02, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Whiteville, North Carolina, she lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Alonzo Long and Margie Price Fisher and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen F. Moise and Elizabeth F.Wells. Eunice graduated from Whiteville High School and received her RN Degree at Watts Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Church Life Committee at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Waynesville Garden Club, and an active Folkmoot volunteer. She also served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, and was past president of the Haywood County Medical Auxiliary. She served for many years as a Haywood Community College Foundation Board member and was currently serving as secretary. Eunice was a devoted mother and caregiver known to her grandchildren and friends as "Kizzy." She had a young spirit and a zest for life. She loved serving her community, enjoyed baking for others, and was creative in everything she touched. She is survived by three sons, George Andrew Brown, III and his wife, Susan Cabe Brown, Michael Ashley Brown, M.D. and Tami Duke, all of Waynesville, and Wallace Alexander Brown and his wife, Stacey Wagner Brown of Arden, North Carolina; three daughters, Deborah Fisher Brown and husband, Stephen Michael Brown, Caroline Brown Williamson and husband, Wesley Tate Williamson, and Eunice Brown Ledford and husband, James Heyward Ledford, all of Waynesville; one sister, Oveda F. Gaudreaux of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; one brother, Herbert Long Fisher, of Whiteville, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, George Andrew Brown, IV and his wife, Melanie Smith Brown, Zachary Cabe Brown, Mollie Hanna Brown, Stephen Michael Brown, Jr., Gavin Alston Brown and his wife, Carrie Blackburn Brown, Hamilton Hunter Brown, Lucas McKenzie Brown, Emily Elizabeth Brown, Elizabeth Grace Williamson, Caroline Olivia Ledford, Margot Lee Ledford, and Elle Kate Brown; one great granddaughter, Lillian Savannah Brown, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert M. Blackburn and Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Davis Moise, Stuart Fisher, and Toby Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold B. Wells, Dr. Eugene Harpe, Reimer Steffen, Rolf Kaufman, and Neal Ensley. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life reception in the Christian Growth Center of FUMC Waynesville at 5pm . In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to Haywood Community College Foundation, 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721; First United Methodist Church of Waynesville Building Fund, P.O. Box 838, Waynesville, NC 28786; or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786.
