Eva Gunter

Waynesville, Eva Arrington Gunter, age 88, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Ellen Messer Arrington. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie P. Gunter, who died in 1992; a daughter, Hilda Wilde, who died in 2006 and 12 sisters and brothers. She retired from Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA, with 23 years service. Eva enjoyed singing, and volunteering with Handicapped Disabled Children and was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Freida J. Sellards, and her husband, Abe, of Bristol, VA; three sons, Kenneth R. Rector, of Waynesville; Jerry R. Rector, and his companion, Sylvia Dempsey, of Bristol, VA; and Brian C. Rector, and his wife, Juanita, of Forest, VA; 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and numerous great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Panther Creek Baptist Church with The Reverend Ron Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5140 Panther Creek Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
