Evangeline Belcher

Bethel- Evangeline "Van" Cooper Belcher, age 78, of the Bethel Community died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Jackson County but had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Ida Bryson Cooper.
She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Elijah Keith Janney; two brothers, Marshall and Marion Cooper. She retired from Champion International in 1986 with 40 years of service and was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter; Sara B. Jones and her husband Paul of Lake Junaluska, two sisters-in-law, Lojuan Cooper of Maggie Valley and Katherine Cooper of Cruso; five grandchildren, Wes Limbo, Stacey Janney and her husband Matt, Sarah Jones, Brian Jones and Julie Funderud and her husband Steven; one great-grandchild, Keri Funderud; several nieces and nephews and two very special friends; Ruth Moore and Hubert Howard.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend Chris Westmoreland officiating. Burial will follow in Bon-A-Venture Cemetery of Clyde. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Sara & Paul Jones, 2177 S. Lakeshore Drive, Lake Junaluska.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
